BRIEF HISTORY OF THE COLLEGE

K.P College (Kamleshwari Prasad College) was established in 1965 by late Kamleshwari Prasad Yadav (Double M.A) a leading freedom fighter,visionary, educationist and a member of the Draft Committee of the Constituent Assembly.

If the establishment of the College can be said to have been the work of any one person, it was the work of late Kamleshwari Pd Yadav who not only donated land but also strived hard to raise funds by collecting subscription in order to bring the college in existence. In the initial stage eight teachers namely-Shri S.N. Yadav,Shri C.N.Yadav, Shri N.P. Yadav, Shri D.N.Ram,Shri T.P.Sah, Shri B.K. Jha, Shri A.P.Yadav, Shri K.L.Yadav.joined him and worked hard for the development of the college.They imparted education with zeal despite the fact that they were getting nothing.

In the beginning, for want of its own building the college started functioning in the premises of Vyapar Mandal, Murliganj under the supervision of the principal, Late A.K Shastri. Later on, the college was shifted to a rented building near Rahika Tola.

The College was accorded affiliation by the Bhagalpur University from the academic session 1969-70.

Capt. K.I. Bhushan joined this college as Principal on 07.01.1971 and continued till 18.08.1992. During this period he did a lot for the all round development of the college. By dint of his efforts the college got recognition by the U.G.C. under 2(F) in the year 1974. It was his efforts that the college was affiliated upto Degree Standard in Arts, Science & Commerce. The college was converted into constituent unit of the L.N.M. University, Darbhanga in the year 1980. During his region 48 posts of teachers and 54 non-teaching staff were sanctioned. Teaching & Non-teaching staffs were appointed against all the sanctioned posts. In fact , this was a “ Golden Era” of the college .The contribution of shri Abhay Kumar Yadav S/O Late Kamleshwari Pd.Yadav can’t be under estimated. He was the secretary of the college from 1977 to 1980. He financed for the construction of the Shyama Hostel & Abhay Bhawan. For his valuable contribution to the institution, L.N.M.U. Darbhanga declared him the life long member of the Senate.

Presently, K.P. College is situated on the National Highway-107 joining Murliganj with Madhepura the University Headquarters. It is a co-educational college imparting education to the poor and the needy students of the Kosi devastated area dominated by SC, ST & BC. In addition to the general curriculum includes NCC, NSS, Gardening, Physical Education, Computer Education, Games & Sports.
The College has a good library having 15352 books and 170 journals and other magazines. It has a large playground where students play cricket, football, volleyball, hockey, kabaddi and other outdoor games. The college has a large common room both for the boys & girls separately with Table-tennis boards, chess, newspapers, magazines etc.
The college has two hostels-general hostel & welfare hostel. It had a cycle- stand & a canteen. But, unfortunately they were washed away by the Kosi flood.
The college has four big halls, eight rooms besides Principal’s Chamber, Staff room, Six Laboratories, Six official rooms, Sports room etc. It would not be out of place to mention here that most of the teachers have been transferred. Some of them retired. Similarly some members of the non-teaching staff were deputed to the university. Thus, there is a dearth of teaching & non-teaching staff in the college.

COURSES OFFERED

The college offers courses in all the three faculties- Arts, Science & Commerce upto Hons. Standard excluding Home Science & Geography. During the session 1995-97 P.G. teaching was started in the college in the following subjects- History, Political Science, Hindi, Urdu, Maithili, Zoology & Chemistry. But, after some time the P.G. teaching was centralized.
The academic council of the University has approved recently Vocational course BCA.

Eklavya Programme was organized by the Bhagalpur University in 2009 in which 7 Students of this college participated and received medals. The same programme was organized by the V.K.S. University, Ara in 2007-08 in which some girl student participated and got medals.
Mukesh Kumar glorified our institution as he was declared the best football player of the university. Besides, he was nominated as the senator of the University in the year 2008.Our college students very often participated in the Inter College and the Inter University programmes successfully.
Some of the teachers of the college did refresher course and published articles in leading journals and magazines. They are also engaged in research works.
